Lungs is a story about 2 people living life. Throughout the show, this couple (which is only listed as M and F) go through many stages of their relationship and find their true love for each other after many tragedies. There is a theme of environmentalism that drives much of the conflict between the two actors.

During this moment in the show, Berenger is being heavily interrogated by his best friend, Jean. He breaks off from reality and gives a fierce monologue underscored by the above sound effect.
We begin act two with this overture with music by Jacques Tati. This cue represents a moment in the play where Berenger is suffering from nightmares caused by the looming threat of everybody around him succumbing to becoming a rhinoceros.
